*GASP* G00DM00DSTUFF isn't G00DM00DSTUFF anymore?!
Nope.
You know, making the decision to change the name was not easy!
Let's start from the beginning...
When I first decided to start my small business, I had no clue what to name it. I went through so many names, so many I can't even remember the names I decided not to go with.
My instagram name is "G00DM00DD00D" and I say "stuff" a lot. Idk..I'm just not elaborative. *Shrugs* Sorry!
Anyway, I thought "G00DM00DD00D's STUFF?!?!?!!?" Nah, too long, right? Then it sounds like it's all my stuff...I mean...I guess it is but whatever. Not the point. I knocked off the "D00D's" and boom, bam, I got my name -- "G00DM00DSTUFF."
I absolutely loved it but as time went on something about it started to feel off to me. The zeroes kind of bugged me. The length of the name kind of bothered me. IDK, it didn't feel right anymore but I thought I was just being dumb. "Jessica, it doesn't matter! Just leave the name alone and keep putting stuff out! Update your packaging, update your work area!"
A few months in, I announced my rebranding and G00DM00DSTUFF went MIA.
Fast forward a month and I'm practicing, researching and learning more about having a small business, going through brand colors and themes and ideas and plans and guess what? I didn't have a new name.
ALL of this work and research and practice and, shit, all of this MONEY being put into the rebranding and I still felt with a disconnect with all of the results and my brand as a whole.
***OK RIGHT NOW, I'M GOING TO MENTION TWO QUICK THINGS:
1) ONE DAY, ONE OF MY OLDER SISTERS, MY LITTLE SISTERS, MY GIRLFRIEND AND I WERE WATCHING "THE CIRCLE" ON NETFLIX AND JOEY CALLED SHUBHAM "SHOOBY" AND WE THOUGHT IT WAS FUNNY AS HELL. SO WE STARTED TAKING EVERYONE'S FIRST INITIAL OF THEIR FIRST NAME AND ADDING -OOBY TO THE END AS A NEW NICKNAME. (EXAMPLE: JESSICA = JOOBY)
2) IDK WHY, KIDS USUALLY HAVE A HARD TIME PRONOUNCING "JESSICA" AND IT COMES OUT AS "GEGGA" SO MY SIBLINGS AND KIDS USUALLY CALL ME "GEGGA" SO.....
One night, my little sisters, my girlfriend and I are watching a movie. Well, except I'm not because uhh, workaholic here. I'm sitting there on my iPad trying to rework the G00DM00DSTUFF logo and make it into something I loved and I. JUST. CAN'T.
I start complaining about it and we're trying to think of new names...
"G00DSTUFF?"
"Gegga, what about just 'STUFF??'"
They're just spittin' out names and then someone says...
"GEGGAZ?!??"
My mind's thoughts come to a HALT.
That was ALMOST it!!! Ugh, I already loved it MORE than "G00DM00DSTUFF!" But why was it ALMOST it?! IDK IT JUST WASN'T THERE FOR ME YET!
That's when I'm sitting there and I go
"GOOBYZ???"
All of their eyes lit up and smiles stretched across their faces, including mine.
I got goosebumps...like, for'real.
It felt surreal and it was perfect and that was that!
I worked up the new logo and brand colors in no time. Everything has been so much smoother since then. I feel so much more connected to my brand than I ever have.
So yeah! That's how the world ended up with GOOBYZ. <3 :)
